Doctoral Candidate: Manish Raj
Host Institution: Chalmers University of Technology (Chalmers)
Project: Measurements and analysis of intermodal nonlinearities
About
Manish Raj received a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in mechanical engineering from the Rajasthan Technical University, Kota, India in 2017 and a Master of Technology (MTech) in Applied Optics from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, India in May 2023.
During his master's project, he worked on free-space optical communication. He studied the effect of atmospheric turbulence on the optical beam when it propagates through the atmosphere.
His main research interest is in fiber optics and optical communication. In his leisure time, he likes to read Scientific Biographies.
Project Objectives:
- Setting up an experimental facility for characterization of the nonlinearities of HOM fibres.
- Obtaining quantifiable results of nonlinear intermodal interaction, e.g. modal wavelength conversion based on four-wave mixing.
- Demonstration of all-optical intermodal functionalities in real optical fibre transmission systems
Expected Results: 1. A nonlinear toolbox for future optical space-division-multiplexed transmission system. 2. Understanding of the target HOM fibre specifications needed for specific system-related performance requirements
